The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has said he needed the advice of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, before enforcing the resolution of the National Assembly to seal the Kogi State House of Assembly complex.

Arase disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Saturday on the sidelines of an exercise tagged: “Walk Against Crime.” Solomon Arase

The exercise was organised as part of activities to mark the Police Week.

The Senate had directed the Inspector-General of Police to seal the Kogi State House of Assembly complex pending the resolution of the political crisis in the house.

Arase said the position of the Senate had been sent to the minister for his advice on the matter.

He said: “What I have done is to send the papers to the Minister of Justice for his advice.

“I am a police officer.

“I also need the advice of a legal expert to actually know the way forward.

“Once I get the response of the minister, I will be able to take a decision.”

On the exercise, Arase said it was part of the Police Week, aimed at connecting with other Nigerians.

According to him, the mental and physical health of a police officer determines the level of work he or she can do.

He said: “We are really encouraged that you have come this morning in spite of your numerous schedules to assist us to walk against crime.

“This is one of the stories we have been trying to preach that the police cannot do it alone.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the walk took off from the Force Headquarters to the Unity Fountain in Maitama and back to the Force Headquarters.

In attendance were the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, representatives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Commission, musicians and sports men among others.
