Why Abiodun Insists Old Naira Notes Remain Legal Tender In Ogun

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun insists that the old Naira notes – N1,000 and N5,000 -remain legal tender in Ogun state.
The Governor in this position opts to abide by the ruling of the Supreme Court rather by the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Commercial outlets are hereby reminded that there is an existing court order by the Supreme Court, the apex court in Nigeria, directing that old notes remain legal tender” Abiodun stated in a short statement that threatens to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) of ” of any corporation or store that rejects old Naira notes from members of the public”.

“Ogun State Government will be revoking the certificate of occupancy, CofO of any corporation or store that rejects old Naira notes from members of the public in the State in exchange for goods and services.
Commercial outlets are hereby reminded that there is an existing court order by the Supreme Court, the apex court in Nigeria, directing that old notes remain legal tender.
