Lagos is revving up for a big “Detty December” — and the coastal upgrade moves by the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development (MWID) under Commissioner Dayo Bush‑Alebiosu are the centrepiece.

Social-media posts from the ministry show a sweeping coastal-community tour led by Alebiosu, signalling readiness for major festive season activity.

Major pier and terminal upgrades have been flagged across Lagos waterfronts, ramping up capacity for ferry rides and crowd movement during the holiday period.

On its official feed, MWID highlighted partnerships with local boat operators to boost safety and service delivery on the lagoon.

Coastal-erosion control and shoreline regulation have not been left behind. At a Lagos Waterfront Summit, Alebiosu warned that unauthorised dredging and encroachment threaten the festive-season posture of the shoreline.

Private sector links are gaining traction. The MWID’s Instagram post emphasised “efficiency and professionalism” as the ministry rolled out standards for waterfront developers — a signal that Lagos is positioning its shoreline for upscale leisure and event hosting.

In the run-up to December, lighting, signage and landscaping drives along key waterfront arteries are said to be warming up, making the nighttime scene “safer and more vibrant”, according to ministry updates.

Access and transport are also getting a boost: new routes and improved ferry operations are being promoted to ease road traffic pressure during celebrations.

Environmental standards are being stamped hard: the ministry’s social-media feed shows stop-work notices being issued for non-compliant waterfront construction and waste-management boats being commissioned for lagoon cleanup.

All these efforts come together under Alebiosu’s watch to shift Lagos’ coastline from a scenic backdrop into a high-octane festival stage. The message is clear: this year’s Detty December will be bigger, safer and more waterfront-centric than ever.
