Pastor Adeboye Tells Why Redeemed Won’t Obey Twitter Ban

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has revealed why his ministry will not obey directive that all persons and organizations in Nigeria are banned from using popular social media platform Twitter.


The directive was issued last week by the Minister for Communication Lai Mohammed who announced the indefinite suspension of the operations of Twitter in Nigeria.

Attorney- General and Minister for Justice Abubakar Malami announced that relevant government agencies will prosecute anybody that flouts the directive.

Giving reason why his ministry will not obey the directive, General Overseer Pastor Adeboye posted “The Redeemed Christian Church of God is domiciled in more than 170 nations and territories. The tweets here are in accordance with Article 19 of the United Nations universal declaration of human rights.”

The article quoted by the popular pastor according to the report monitored by societynow.ng on newswirengr.com states

Article 19 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights read, “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”

The federal government announced the suspension of Twitter operations after the platform deleted a message on its platform by President Muhammadu Buhari which it tagged genocidal.

The decision, however, continue to attract widespread condemnation from a larger part of people far and wide.
