It is the reality. In government, just like in every other organization there are usually people who are closer to the principal and influence him (or her) than every other person.

The checks by societynow.ng revealed in Ogun state, two people sit on top of this list.

“If you want anything from the Governor, even a sit down once they give the go-ahead be assured it is sealed” societynow.ng learned.

These persons are Tokunbo Talabi and Salisu Shuaib Afolabi.

Talabi is the billionaire who set aside his status to become the Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG).

Tokunbo Talabi

The SSG’s ties with the Governor are said to pre-date the current administration in Ogun State.

“They knew each other before Abiodun took power, Talabi is not a politician. He is a professional in politics.” Societynow.ng learned.

The information at hand revealed that Talabi is credited with largely “providing and overseeing the model determining the spending and investments” of the Abiodun administration.

Talabi, 59, a stakeholder in Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) and other high-value concerns was a very low profile and decorated business mind until he took office as the Ogun SSG – after great pressure from Abiodun and powers that backed him outside the state.

The other person, Salisu Shuaib Afolabi is the Chief of Staff to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

“Salisu is a hardcore politician. Politics is his thing. While Talabi deals largely with helping the government with translating business models into good governance, Afolabi’s has strong input dealing with politicians and related political moves. But that is not to say their roles do not overlap” societynow.ng learned.

A former Deputy Chief of Staff to immediate past Governor Ibikunle Amosun, societynow.ng further gathered that Salisu is from Odeda, a part of Ogun Central.

He is said to be eyeing the Senatorial seat of the Ogun Central currently occupied by Amosun.

Talabi, the SSG is from Oru-Ijebu in Ogun East.

“In between providing advice on how to judiciously utilize government funds (Talabi) and manage politicians and deal with political issues (Salisu), the SSG and Chief of Staff now determines who the governor sees and what the governor does” societynow.ng learned.
