The primary election, which will produce the flagbearers of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 57 chairmanship positions and 376 councillorship seats in the July 12 Local Government election, was held on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

It turned out to be a feisty contest with unexpected turns.

And insiders insist things could have turned worse but for the pre-election roles played by the likes of Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola.

The Ogun West Senator reportedly made high-level interventions to broker understanding among various stakeholders, particularly in Lagos West, where he retains strong influence.

Before becoming the Senator representing Ogun West in 2023, the federal lawmaker—famously known as Yayi—served multiple terms as a state legislator, House of Representatives member, and Senator from Lagos West.

He reportedly leveraged his influence to help various groups reach accommodations that reduced election-day face-offs during Saturday’s APC council primary—especially in his former base, sources claim.

Further checks revealed that although interventions from Yayi and others were helpful, they did not entirely eradicate conflicts during the process.

The results have started coming out and are already being heavily disputed, particularly in the case of the Mosan/Okunola Local Council Development Area.
