The status of the talk-of-the-town aspirant for the vacant Remo Federal House of Representatives seat, Muyiwa Oladipo, has received a boost from Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Shettima gave Oladipo a notable moment of recognition during the opening ceremony of the National Sports Festival (NSF), themed Gateway Games 2024, held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President officially declared the 22nd edition of the prestigious games open. Oladipo attended the event in his capacity as a former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly and a son of the soil.

Sources disclosed that the Chief Host and Governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, introduced the Vice President to former Speakers of Ogun State, including Muyiwa Oladipo, Titi Oseni, and Suraju Adekunbi, at the MKO Abiola Stadium, the venue of the event.

“The Vice President spent more time with Oladipo, clasping hands in what appeared to be a show of familiarity and recognition ” sources revealed.

The moment has since sparked discussions about Oladipo’s ties to the nation’s number two citizen, especially as Shettima patted him on the back while returning from declaring the event open.

A former Speaker and multiple-term commissioner in Ogun State — having headed the Ministries of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs and Tourism & Culture — Oladipo has emerged as a frontrunner for the vacant Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency seat. His rise is buoyed by a passionate push from stakeholders for an experienced replacement.

The former occupant of the position, the late Adewunmi Onanuga, was the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and facilitated unprecedented development across the federal constituency. She was serving her second term when she passed away in January 2025.

Stakeholders are advocating for an experienced successor to not only sustain but also build upon the pace of development.

Oladipo, a lawyer and former Speaker, is widely touted as “fitting the bill.” His reputation as a “doer of good things,” along with a respected family name, is considered a strong advantage.

According to insiders, his previous role as Speaker gives him automatic ranking status in the Federal House, while his understanding of executive functions — gained as a former cabinet member — is expected to help him quickly adapt and deliver quality representation if elected.
