Insiders Tell Aregbesola’s Next Move Against Oyetola

Minister for Interior Rauf Aregbesola, 65, has a plan up his sleeve.

The former Governor of Osun State is said to be preparing for a takeover of the Osun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aregbesola who groomed the APC in Osun state while serving as two-term Governor (27 November 2010 – 27 November 2018) lost control of the party to his successor in a bitter supremacy tussle.

Aregbesola’s successor, Gboyega Oyetola,67, leveraged the position as “leader” of the party based on his status as the highest ranking official to sideline Aregbesola and his supporters.

An embittered Aregbesola and his followers- TOP, (The Osun Professionals)- refused to support the second-term ambition of Oyetola, and this stance, complemented by other factors resulted in the governor’s loss to the People’s Democratic Party”s Demola Adeleke in the recent gubernatorial election in Osun State.

Aregbesola’s supporters later staged a campaign accusing the governor of actions and inactions that resulted in APC’s loss in the July 16, 2022, gubernatorial election and demanded a rebuilding of the party in Osun state.

Oyetola leaves office in November 2022 and Aregbesola as Minister will outrank him, especially with the stripes of former “two-term governor” added to the bargain.

“The rebuilding of the Osun APC in the name of making the party formidable for the 2023 election will return the control to Aregbesola, especially with many members attributing Oyetola’s loss to the minister’s refusal to support him” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Added revelation, however, has it that Aregbesola’s plan may be in for strong opposition with Iyiola Omisore’s interest at stake.

Omisore a former chieftain of the PDP and passionate adversary of Aregbesola is the national publicity secretary of the APC.

And he is a staunch supporter of Oyetola.

“Oyetola may not be as strong as he was to contend with Aregbesola but Omisore is there and he knows Aregbesola wants to cut him to size. So, it will still boil down to factoring into the equation the gubernatorial loss by APC, how far are the people backing Omisore and Oyetola willing to go, to stop Aregbesola from taking control of the party in Osun state” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
