Insiders have started unraveling the factors responsible for the defeat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Osun state.

Oyetola was defeated by Demola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by 375,027 to 403,371.

John Upah, a skilled advertiser and experienced player in the broadcast industry attempted to credit the “obidients” with the victory.

The “obidents” – coined from the Obi in the name of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) – are the members and supporters of the LP whose candidate Yusuf Lasun polled 2,729 votes.

Upah, a staunch supporter of Peter Obi posted on his Facebook page regarding Oyetola’s defeat “2 things about the Osun vote: 1. It was a vote against BAT, not against Oyetola. 2. It is a vote against the old/ convention. The Obidients have a hand in this.”

Gboyega Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Lagos state Babajide Sanwo-Olu came on the thread and responded “Everything you said here is zero. You know nothing about all that transpired. But as always, everybody is analyst in situations like this.”

Prodded by Upah on what really transpired, the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos state governor responded “three to four factors led to the defeat:

  1. “Arrogance of power” on the part of the party in government
  2. Internal wrangling (Aregbesola vs Oyetola/Tinubu)
  3. Role of money
  4. Resolve of a section of the residents to vote for Adeleke regardless of anything.

So it’s got nothing to do with the Obidients as you claim here.”

SocietyNow.Ng’s checks revealed that the emerging claim by the Obidients that the Labour Party collapsed its structure in support of the PDP is not correct.

Labour party reportedly went all out to win but the reality of recording just slightly above voided votes tells how strong it is in Osun state.

Despite featuring a Lasun a former deputy speaker of the federal house of representatives as its candidate, Labour Party came far behind Kehinde Atanda of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) who placed a distant third with 10,104.
