“How To Stop Attacks Against Nigerians In South Africa & Other Countries” Dayo Bush Alebiosu Provides Road Map

Former chairman of the federal house representatives committee on Treaties, Dayo Bush Alebiosu has provided a road map to protect Nigerians in South Africa, and other countries from attacks.

Xenophobia phobia attack against Nigerians, particularly in South Africa has become a recurring issue.

Despite strong worded protest against the development by the government , as well visit by a high power delegation – the attack has continued.

D Bush as the immediate past federal lawmaker representing Kosofe Federal Constituency is fondly called in a recent chat disclosed, Nigeria needs to activate existing treaties, as well as work on new ones.

Bush disclosed there is a treaty on mutual assistance such as resulted in the prosecution of Henry Okah for bombing carried out in Nigeria.

Okah was arrested in South Africa and prosecuted on behalf of the Nigeria government.

‘’we can use the same treaty that get attackers of Nigerians in South Africa arrested and prosecuted in order to send a strong message to the perpetrators’’ the former federal lawmaker stated emphatically.

And also revealed there is also the treaty on ‘’Mutual Business protection’’ that safe guards the properties and businesses of Nigerians in South Africa and South Africans in Nigeria

‘’There are about eight treaties that we can work out to protect nationals from these attacks’’ stated Dayo Bush who was instrumental to putting some of these international agreements in place.

Admitting that signals indicate, the attacks won’t just go away, Dayo Bush advised ‘’working’’ on the treaties would help make an example of the identified perpetrators and help protect ‘’Nigerians’’ and their ‘’properties’’.

‘’There are other ways as well, going to the International Criminal Court and use of force but handling the situation through the treaties more diplomatic’’ he explained.
