Today, Sunday, November 22, 2020, is the first Sunday service that popular prophet Israel Oladele Ogundipe will be miss at his church as a result of his conviction for fraud.

Ogundipe better known by the name of his ministry “Genesis” was convicted for fraud on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, by a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja and handed a two years prison sentence, a year each for the two counts established against him but to run concurrently.

This development naturally makes Ogundipe who is said to have initiated underground moves to fight his conviction unavailable for today’s Sunday Service at his Genesis Global ministry located in Alakuko area of Lagos State – a new mega church undergoing construction in Isheri area.

Inside Story As Popular Prophet Dele Ogundipe “Genesis”Begins Moves To Appeal Conviction For Fraud

Witnesses at the service, however, disclosed that despite his absence the church was filled.

“It is like worshipers and friends mobilized themselves to attend in keeping fight with him” societynow.ng learned.

Sources disclosed that “attendance” was massive, even better than some of the days that the popular prophet conducted Sunday services.”

The information pieced together by societynow.ng revealed that the contrary what was expected in many quarters.

“Based on the stories decorating his conviction and the fact that he remains the main pull for many people to the church, it was expected in certain quarters that his travails would affect attendance at his church from today onward but what happened today proved that wrong” societynow.ng learned.

The checks made by societynow.ng revealed that attendance at the church today – “and hopefully subsequent Sunday Services till the return of Ogundipe” – is being driven based on the narrative by his aides and friends that the popular prophet is facing “persecution” and conscious efforts to ensure his conviction does do too much damage to his brand.

Popular and colorful in his approach to evangelism, Israel Oladele Ogundipe who has a near-cult following home and abroad is the shepherd of Genesis Global – which he built -, a parish of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC).

He has, however, been at logger’s heads with the leadership of the Celestial Church of Christ over issues about discipline and allegations of deviation from the tenets and doctrines of the CCC.

Ogundipe’s conviction for fraud is as a result of a court case instituted by Mrs Olaide Williams –Oni who alleged amongst other things that the prophet over some time defrauded her to the tune of N17M in what revolves around a romance scam.

The case lasted about thirteen years before judgement was given against Ogundipe on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.
