Customs Volleyball Teams Team Produce Eight National Players
atop their respective standings.
Another significant milestone was recorded by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as both its men’s and women’s volleyball teams ended the first phase of the 2026 Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League atop their respective standings.
The third edition of the league, which was held from 15 to 27 June at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, featured 26 teams from across the country. The Customs men’s team recorded a flawless campaign, winning all 12 matches to finish with the maximum 36 points, while the women’s team topped the standings with 34 points despite a narrow five-set defeat to Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Spikers on the final day.
The Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) Sulaiman Chiroma, congratulated the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the management team, saying the Service’s continued investment in sports has translated into improved performances on the court.
“The investment of the Comptroller-General and the management is something we are proud of, and the players have shown their appreciation through their performances. Finishing the first phase on top of both tables tells us that the investment is yielding results,” he said.
DCG Chiroma said the Service’s objective goes beyond winning the domestic league, adding that preparations would continue during the break to strengthen the teams ahead of continental competitions through sustained investment in coaching, athlete welfare, quality equipment and international exposure.
The Customs teams’ impressive performances also earned national recognition, with the Nigeria Volleyball Federation inviting 20 of it’s players to camp ahead of the 2026 African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Africa Nations Cup Qualifiers scheduled for 13 to 23 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The NCS produced the highest number of invited players, with Adeniyi Favour, Jaiyeola Abdulquadri, Emmanuel Udah, Okonkwo Kingsley, Anele Timothy, Kazeem Mutiu, Abednego Hassan and Tiamiyu Ismail all earning national team call-ups.
With both teams leading their respective standings and contributing the highest number of players to the national camp, the NCS heads into the second phase of the league determined to challenge for both titles while continuing to produce athletes capable of representing Nigeria on the continental stage.
