There was a major scare at one of the banking halls of a very popular bank on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

One of the customers at the branch of the bank situated in Victoria Island, Lagos state, smuggled in a bottle of petrol and threatened to burn everything if he was not given desired attention.

The customer wanted cash across the counter.

Nigeria is currently battling a Naira scarcity crisis in the face of the adoption of redesigned Naira notes.

“The customer (male) came in with a coloured plastic bottle of one of these drinks and started creating a scene, sprinkling the petrol that he used the bottle to smuggle into the banking hall when he couldn’t get cash” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

The information available has it that as part of efforts to limit its  exposure to emerging pockets of attacks on banks, the management of the keeper of people’s money located on Ajose Adeogun street limited cash withdrawals to the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) outside the banking hall.

“And like in many other places the queues at the about three points where a bit and long and the withdrawals limited to ten thousand Naira (N10,000) per person” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

The petrol-smuggling customer couldn’t make a withdrawal at the ATM and also wanted more than the imposed limit.

“It was really scary, there was a lot of panic before he was cajoled and later forcefully overpowered before he could do damage” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

The scary incident reportedly happened “in the afternoon “at the branch of the bank that recorded recent “standout” happenings.

SocietyNow.Ng further gathered that the management at the branch refused to let the threatening action of a misguided customer affect provision of services to others by opening for business the next day.
