Dr Ade Abolurin, Civil Defence Corps Boss

The statement was reportedly sourced from a media meet Abolurin held at the Corps Headquarter Abuja.

According to the statement- the commandant further clarified circumstances surrounding his links to the alleged fraudster : ‘the said personnel was never arrested in a hotel in Gwagwalada talk less of him been caught in the act collecting money. He was only fingered by one of the suspects, a road side GSM and computer operator arrested in Gwagwalada based on intelligence report. It was the suspect who mentioned one Tiamiyu Hakeem a staff of the Corps as his link’

While insisting that the Corps is investigating the matter to determine the real culprits- he absolved his involvement with the explanation that

‘It is worthy of note that, contrary to the allegation that the letters of employment found with the suspect were signed by the Commandant General, the Corps Chief Executive was never a signatory to any of the appointment letters issued during the replacement exercise, therefore, any letter of such is fake and should be reported accordingly’

However according to Abolurin, ‘the Corps will not spare anyone found guilty of extorting money from desperate applicants for the purpose of employment into the Service’

He gave an insight into the service’ efforts in such regards ‘The Corps also in collaboration with ICPC have arrested some persons in Lagos state who opened fake websites for the purpose of defrauding applicants. They will be charge to court soon’

He gave further insights into the powers vested on the corps and it’s activities with the revelation ‘the Corps as a security organization has the power to arrest, investigate and to prosecute, therefore, it is not out of place to set up a panel to investigate cases that involves personnel and others, for disciplinary measures to be taken in line with the public service rule, so as to serve as deterrent to others with and to maintain the level of integrity and credibility the Corps has attained’.

He reportedly made these clarifications while commenting on the arrest made so far in connection with employment racketeering and why the Corps has decided to set up a panel to investigate the suspects in accordance to the law, ethics, rules and regulations governing military and paramilitary agencies.
