Army Refutes False Claims on Kogi Rescue Operation Photos
described the claims as misleading and baseless
The 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that photographs released from its recent rescue operation in Kogi State were old.
The Army described the claims as misleading and baseless, insisting that the images were authentic and captured during the operation conducted on November 2, 2025, by troops deployed at Forward Operating Base, Oguma.
In a statement signed by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the Brigade said the operation led to the rescue of two kidnapped victims and recovery of ransom money at Achigili Forest in Kogi State.
Abdullahi explained that the photographs in question contained verifiable geolocation data confirming they were taken at the exact coordinates of the forest area where the mission took place, providing clear evidence that the images were genuine and current.
He stressed that the Nigerian Army maintains a high standard of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in all its media engagements, adding that every photograph or footage released undergoes thorough vetting through established public relations procedures before dissemination. He described the false narrative being circulated as a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to discredit the credible efforts of troops maintaining peace and security in the state.
The statement urged the public to disregard the falsehood and continue to support the Nigerian Army and other security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance the collective fight against criminal activities in Kogi State and beyond.
