Ajibola Basiru To Play Prominent Role In Reconciling Aregbesola & Oyetola

The chatter in the political circle of Osun state has it that Ajibola Basiru, the new National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is primed to play a prominent role in the reconciliation of former Governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola.

The quarrel between them denied Oyetola a second term and handed Osun state to the rival People’s Democratic Party.

It also cost Aregbesola his prime position as the second most influential person in the political family of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu SocietyNow.Ng learned.

As he did to Oyetola, the former minister for Interior was aloof in the process that made Tinubu President of Nigeria.

But while Tinubu won the February 25, 2023, Presidential election, Oyetola lost the July 16, 2022, Osun gubernatorial election to Ademola Adeleke.

After he exited office as Minister, Aregbesola who insisted he didn’t offend anyone openly sought forgiveness from all those who felt offended by his actions and inactions.

He also declared interest in unifying all APC caucuses in the state to make the party more formidable ahead of the next Osun gubernatorial and general elections.

Aregbesola’s peace overtures didn’t get much interest as other stakeholders sought great positionings in the new Federal Government before entertaining reconciliation.

Oyetola

And insiders say that has happened.

Oyetola is the new Minister for Transportation, Ajibola Basiru replaced Iyiola Omisore who remains very close to the President as the National Secretary of the APC.

Omisore and Oyetola worked together to get Basiru the position.

“Basiru has now gotten the go-ahead to handle the reconciliation with Aregbesola and others” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

How the former Minister interprets and handles the move remains to be seen.
