Senate: Abiodun Moves Ahead Of Daniel With Submission Of Form As APC ‘Consensus’ Candidate
seeking to represent Ogun East senatorial district.
Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun state, has formally submitted his nomination form at the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, seeking to represent Ogun East senatorial district.
The move positions the governor as the party’s ‘consensus candidate’ for the seat, signaling a significant shift in the internal power struggle for the district’s representation.
The submission marks a pivotal moment in the contest for the Ogun East ticket, where Abiodun appears to have gained a tactical advantage over the incumbent, Gbenga Daniel.
While Daniel, who is seeking re-election, has acquired his expression of interest and nomination forms to re-contest the seat on the platform of the APC, he appears to submit the documents.
In what is being described as a “make or mar” political battle for the soul of the senatorial district, Abiodun’s formal entry into the race as a consensus figure aims to consolidate his influence within the party structure.
According to a statement released by the governor’s handlers on Thursday, the submission reinforces his commitment to the growth and development of the Ijebu and Remo divisions which make up the district.
Abiodun described the decision to run for the senate as one driven by “service, responsibility, and dedication.”
He expressed gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, and residents across the district for what he termed their unwavering support and confidence in his leadership over the years.
The governor noted that the backing he has received remains a primary motivation for his legislative ambition.
The governor further reaffirmed his commitment to providing “purposeful representation” for Ogun East if elected.
He emphasized that his focus would be on sustaining developmental strides, expanding infrastructure, creating economic opportunities, and empowering the youth to ensure greater prosperity across the communities in the district.
The rivalry between the governor and the incumbent senator has been a focal point of Ogun State politics.
With Abiodun now officially in the race and backed by the “consensus” label from his camp, the pressure mounts on Daniel as the party moves closer to the primary elections.
The APC leadership is expected to navigate these competing interests as the window
