In October 2010, Cecilia Ibru , at the time arguably the nation’s most decorated Bank Boss was convicted for corruption while serving as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Oceanic Bank – now a part of Ecobank.

She was sentenced to 18months imprisonment and ordered to forfeit shares and assets valued at about N191billion in a plea bargain.

Some of the assets handed over to AMCON were listed as in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America – and of course Nigeria.

Cecilia Ibru’s ordeal actually started in August 2009 when she was first arraigned on a 23 count charge which was later reduced to 3 based on plea bargain arrangement.

Before prosecution started, her sons particularly Obaro was all over the social circle.

He was a permanent fixture on the luxury chapter of the nightlife.

When it came to fashion, Obaro was the pacesetter.

He went on to bag the famous St Moritz Man of Style Awards for his seemingly effortless efforts at looking extremely good.

Obaro was the Fashion King and definition of lifestyle.

It was an award well celebrated. While Oboden wasn’t as loud as Obaro, he held his turf as well with his style and ‘approach’’ to life.

But immediately whiff of trouble came with the investigation of their mother, they disappeared from the scene.

Checks revealed the duo – and others on their gravy train- went to great pains to stay off the public glare.

The jury is still out on the specific reason(s) for this.

And that is their fate till date, they remain consigned to the background while life sizzle and bubble as days go by.
