10 Life’s Lessons Learnt So Far From BBNaija

The Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Level Up is proving to be one of the most intriguing editions of the show since its inception in 2006. From the division of houses to the ships, drama and all the gossip flying around in just five weeks, the reality TV show still has a lot up its sleeves for viewers. And we are here for all the Level Up season has to offer.

5 weeks after the MultiChoice-produced show premiered, here are ten things we have learned so far.

1. Just Be Yourself

BBNaija does not reward bad behaviour, but the fans do not care as long as they like your energy and personality. BBNaija fans would sincerely support you to the very end. In the case of housemates like Beauty, Groovy, and Phyna, regardless of how they’ve chosen to play their games on the show, their fans would defend them.

2. Creativity Always Thrive

It will not be out of place to say that Level 2 housed some of the most creative housemates in this season, with each housemate adding their flavour to whatever tasks they are given. Although the Level 1 housemates were referred to as the Islanders, denoting that they are classy, they do not overshadow the Level 2 housemates. In Bryann’s words, a housemate in Level 2, ‘creativity na our asset’.

3. Always Express Your Feelings

It seems the housemates in this season just learnt the meaning of vibes and cruise and use it as a medium not to express their feelings. Housemates like Phyna and Amaka have found themselves in messier situations because they refused to express themselves. All this would have been avoided if they simply expressed how they felt.

4. Are Men The Prize?

On a lighter note, although we do not think that men are the prize, the ladies in this season appear to be giving some credence to this impression with their constant tantrums and fights over the male housemates. It’s even more bothersome that the men seem not to care about all their drama.

5. In a Game, No One Is Really Your Friend

The housemates have bonded over sharing the same space for the first 30 days, but when it all comes down to it, most of them will betray one another to win the prize. Who can really blame them? They are in the house for 100 million, not to make friends.

6. People Would Judge You Regardless

When Hermes entered the BBNaija house, fans and viewers had opinions about his looks and beliefs. After a few weeks, many have warmed up to him because he was unapologetically himself while putting his all into tasks. Groovy, on the other hand, was mellow, but people judged him for being that way and others are still judging him for coming out of his shell.

It goes a long way to show that people would judge you regardless of how you are.

7. Hard Work Always Pays Off

Week after week, housemates like Cyph, Khalid, Hermes, Chomzy, Phyna, Bryann, Eloswag, Adekunle and more always put their best into tasks. At no point would you see these housemates standing in the shadow of their colleagues when it comes down to tasks and showcasing themselves. Their hard work has earned some a strong fanbase and some a reputation outside the house that would help them Level up after the show.

8. Stay Away From Abusive People

In their few weeks in the house, some of these housemates have encountered abusive situations that they should have walked away from, but allowed to destroy their mental health, their game and reputation. One thing that this season has established is that no one deserves to be in an abusive relationship.

9. Hiding Your Capabilities Could Lead To Failure

Some housemates believe that staying in the BBNaija house till day 72 is all they need to remain relevant after the show. Well, the stories of ex-housemates who didn’t make the top 5 and are making waves in the creative industry have proven this notion wrong. It’s more about what you’ve contributed to the show in terms of entertainment and creativity. Like in every other season, housemates who stayed in their shells have left the show with no impact, and the same will happen to those still in the house trying to play it safe.

10. Classism Is A Dominant Part of Our Society

People complain about classism in regular Nigerian society, but the viewers played into that narrative with how they segregated the housemates based on certain physical attributes they believe each housemate had, not because they are necessarily richer. Seeing it all play out establishes that working your way around classism would avail you of a lot more opportunities in life.

A lot more lessons are to be learnt every day as the show progresses. It’s all in the drama, the entertainment and the personalities playing to win the grand prize of 100 million naira.
