Why Ogun Female Reps Member Adewunmi “Ijaya” Onanuga Is Trending
earned the appellation through her self-adulation
The House of Representatives member from Ogun State, Adewunmi Onanuga, famously known as “Ijaya,” is trending.
She earned the appellation through her self-adulation as “Ijaya to ni ifokanbale” (the fearsome one with peace of mind).
The federal lawmaker representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency is increasingly becoming a talking point in Ogun State.
A loyalist of Governor Dapo Abiodun, she is said to be getting it right with her politics and performance in office.

Now in her second term, the native of Sagamu is reported to have facilitated an array of constituency projects that have made the tenure of her predecessor almost forgotten.
She succeeded Ladi Adebutu, the face of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, who chose not to return to the House of Representatives but instead contested for the governorship position in 2019 and 2023. He did not achieve his ambition in both cases.
Adewunmi Ijaya, on the other hand, has been doing an excellent job in the position left by Adebutu.
The federal legislator, who reportedly sponsored about six bills in her first term, is credited with projects that include the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, building health centers, and providing healthcare interventions. She has also established town centers and contributed to an improved road network across her constituency, including the long-awaited Shimawa road, which had been in poor condition for 16 years. This road project that is underway is expected to significantly shortened travel time to Sagamu.

“Although she is not a greenhorn in the politics of Ogun State, people are starting to talk about her performances because of the brand of politics she is playing. And that is against the prevailing political situation in Ogun State,” sources say.
With roots in the political structure of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, the federal lawmaker got elected into the House of Representatives as an ally of incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun.
“She remains a strong loyalist of Governor Abiodun but has refused to be an enemy to Amosun and his supporters,” insiders say.
Abiodun and Amosun have become two parallel lines in the politics of Ogun State.
Sources disclosed that Ijaya is successfully walking the fine line of good conduct amid the intense political rivalry between the two political leaders, who were close friends before becoming ardent foes.
