On Friday, October 17, 2025, at the thanksgiving service held at St James Anglican Church Iperu‑Remo in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, son Ladi Adebutu playfully addressed Governor Dapo Abiodun: “My brother Prince… smile now — we won’t fight in church; we will fight outside.”

The remark — met with laughter and applause — came during the 90th-birthday thanksgiving of billionaire businessman Sir Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu, whose interests span casinos, banking and other ventures.

Though both Adebutu and the governor hail from Iperu and are said to be cousins, they have emerged as major political rivals: Adebutu as a key figure in the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, and Abiodun as governor under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Rather than escalate the rivalry, the younger Adebutu chose to defuse it with a humorous jab during the celebration. High-profile guests included former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and ex-governors Olusegun Osoba and Gbenga Daniel — all members of the APC.
