Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, the traditional ruler who assaulted an elderly man in a viral video, has been charged to court by the Nigeria Police Force.

He faces a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to breach the peace, according to a disclosure made by Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi.

Adejobi disclosed that the traditional ruler “was granted bail while the case was adjourned to 06/03/2025.”

Adejobi, who confirmed that Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo in Ogun State, was charged today, was silent on the court handling the case.

The police pledged to continue upholding the rule of law and the core values of the profession.

Oba Ogunjobi attracted widespread scorn over the public assault on 70-something-year-old Chief Arinola Abraham Love.

The elderly man was subjected to public humiliation, including being forced to prostrate on the main road while Ogunjobi rained curses and abuses on him.

Before he was charged to court, the Ogun State government suspended Ogunjobi for six months—stripping him of all the rights and duties of his position pending the outcome of the investigation.
