Just as whispers about his health began gaining traction again, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has laid them to rest—decisively—with a string of high-profile, public-facing engagements.

Currently in Rome, the Nigerian leader is participating in historic global events marking the beginning of the reign of Pope Leo XIV. Tinubu arrived in the Italian capital to attend the solemn mass on Saturday, May 17, 2025, heralding the Pontificate of the 267th Bishop of Rome and the new head of the Roman Catholic Church.

He was received at the Mario De Bernardo Military Airport by Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, alongside officials from Vatican City and Nigeria’s diplomatic mission.

In response to an official invitation extended through Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Tinubu is also slated to participate in the papal installation mass scheduled for Sunday, May 18.

Observers note that the President’s participation in such a significant international event—under intense media glare—directly contradicts rumours of ill health. His presence in Rome follows a series of engagements in Nigeria, including receiving the Letter of Credence from Mali’s Ambassador, Cheick Oumar Coulibaly, and a strategic meeting with BUA Group Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu.

With his Rome appearance attracting global attention, Tinubu has—once again—turned speculation into spectacle, underscoring his continued visibility on the world stage.
