Outraged NYSC Condemns Assault On Female Corps Member In Anambra By State Vigilante Group
in Oba, Idemili South local government area of Anambra state.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has condemned in strong terms the assault on a female corps member in Oba, Idemili South local government area of Anambra state.
The corps member was reportedly attacked by operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group during what they claimed was an investigation at the facility where some corps members were accommodated.
In a statement issued by Caroline Embu, acting director of information and public relations, the NYSC described the incident as unacceptable and dehumanising, stressing that no justification could warrant such treatment of a corps member.
“The management of the National Youth Service Corps is saddened by the unfortunate assault on one of its female corps members by some operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group in Oba. Management strongly condemns the unacceptable and dehumanising manner in which the operatives conducted their operations, irrespective of their initial justification for the purported investigation,” the statement read.
While commending the swift response of the Anambra state government, the scheme assured the public that it fully supports the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria Police Force to unravel the circumstances surrounding the assault. It expressed confidence that justice would be served not only for the corps member but for any other aggrieved party.
The NYSC added that administrative steps were already being taken to support the corps member in coping with the psychological and physiological trauma caused by the incident.
Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and security of all corps members nationwide, the management urged stakeholders and the public to continue to uphold the safety of young Nigerians deployed for national service.
“Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve,” the statement concluded.
