The Ondo State Government has reacted to the leaked security memo warning of a possible terrorist attack in parts of the state, assuring residents that proactive steps are being taken to safeguard lives and property.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, the government confirmed awareness of the security alert reportedly issued by the State Security Services to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure.
Ajanaku explained that the leaked memo was part of regular intelligence sharing among security agencies and not an indication of an imminent attack. He said such reports form part of routine inter-agency coordination aimed at identifying, assessing, and preventing potential threats.
“The leaked memo is part of regular intelligence reports that are routinely shared among security agencies and the government. Such reports are a normal part of security operations, aimed at identifying and preventing potential threats,” the statement said.
He assured that the government and relevant security agencies are acting on the intelligence and have taken necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of all residents. He added that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains in constant contact with heads of security formations in the state to ensure coordinated action, particularly in border communities.
“The public can be assured that these reports are being acted upon by the government and relevant security agencies, and necessary precautions are being taken to ensure safety and security,” Ajanaku said. “The emphasis remains on maintaining vigilance and cooperation between security agencies and the government to prevent and respond to any potential threats.”
The government urged residents to remain calm and vigilant while reporting suspicious movements or activities to security agencies. It cautioned against panic or self-help actions, emphasizing that Ondo remains one of the safest states in the country.
“We appeal to residents to remain calm, go about their normal daily activities, refrain from taking laws into their hands, and cooperate with security agencies by providing any information that may help prevent any threat in any part of the state,” the statement added
