The Senators who were discussing a motion on the the Waiver Scheme openly mentioned the Vaswani Brothers as one of the individuals they alleged have been serial abusers of the programme.
Infact Senator Hope Uzodinma stated that as a Member of a Committee in the last Senate, he visited the Volkswagen facility owned by the Stallion Group and he was shocked at the quantity of rice in their wharehouse.
According to the Senators the Waiver Scheme was initiated to lift the economy and allow companies import goods to fill gaps but it has been gravely abused especially in the case of rice and automobiles.
The Senators branded the Waiver abusers economic saboteurs who should be heavily punished. They said the defaulters usually import quantities well in excess of the Waiver given them and there by not only killing local industries in terms of taking jobs abroad, they also deny the Federation of huge taxes.
