Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress are planning a mass rally on Wednesday in the Ogun State capital, Abeokuta, over Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s sacking of 35 labour leaders in the state.

The notice, which was issued by the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Akeem Ambali, on Tuesday said the rally would hold at the state secretariat of the congress at 9a.m. It will be adderessed by the presidents of NLC, TUC and Joint Negotiating Council. Amosun had on Tuesday ordered the implementation of the recommendations of the report of the panel‎ a panel of enquiry set up to investigate the alleged misconduct of executive members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers at the 2016 World Teachers Day celebration. The decision to dismiss the labour leaders was conveyed its position in a statement signed by the Head of Service, Elder Sola Adeyemi.

Among those dismissed are Ambali; 15 other leaders of the labour union; as well as 19 NUT chairmen in local governments across the state.

The government directed the appropriate agencies, including Local Government Service Commission, State Universal Basic Education Board and Teaching Service Commission, to implement the approved recommendations with immediate effect.

The statement claimed that ‎government received complaints from concerned members of the public against some public and civil servants allegedly involved in various acts of misconduct and contravention of extant regulations during the 2016 World Teachers Day celebration.

‎It found the dismissed workers guilty of contravening the Public Service Rules 04401, 04421 (c & d) and 04406 (a).

Apart from Ambali, who was until his dismissal Deputy Director, Community and Social Development, Sagamu Local Government,‎ the state NUT Chairman, Comrade Dare Ilekoya, was also dismissed.
