The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has directed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to place Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, on a no-fly list following the near-fatal altercation at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

In a strongly worded statement issued after receiving detailed reports and video footage from relevant aviation authorities, the Minister described the events of Tuesday, August 7, 2025, as a serious breakdown of sanity and control on both sides—an avoidable confrontation that came dangerously close to resulting in tragedy.

The video evidence, according to the Minister, clearly showed the musician repeatedly repositioning himself on the airport tarmac in a bid to block the aircraft from taxiing toward the runway for take-off.

The Minister dismissed ongoing debate about whether the liquid in the musician’s flask was alcohol or water, asserting that the real danger lay in the obstruction of the aircraft—a conduct he likened to a hostage situation.

“This is totally unacceptable behaviour,” Keyamo said. “It is the physical blockage of the aircraft from taxiing that is the reprehensible conduct here.”

The Minister was equally critical of the actions of the pilot and co-pilot of the ValueJet flight. He faulted them for attempting to taxi the aircraft while the unruly passenger was still positioned dangerously close to the plane.

He noted that no provocation or delay justified initiating movement in such circumstances without confirmation from security personnel that the situation had been safely contained.

While acknowledging the NCAA’s temporary suspension of the flight crew’s licences, the Minister questioned the one-sidedness of the regulatory action. He said both parties—crew and passenger—had breached established international safety protocols under the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Asserting the principle of fairness, Keyamo insisted that disciplinary measures must be applied evenly.

“In the circumstance, I have also directed the NCAA to place Kwam1 on a no-fly list pending further and full investigation, just like the Captain and Pilot. All airlines, both domestic and international, should immediately be informed of this directive,” the Minister stated.

He warned that any airline—whether Nigerian or foreign—that ignores the directive risks having its operating licence withdrawn.

The move signals the government’s intention to take a firm stance on the enforcement of safety and behavioural standards at Nigeria’s airports, regardless of the identity or social status of the individuals involved.
