The Governor of Lagos State Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has read riot act to contractors handling different projects for his administration.
“It doesn’t matter who they know, I am not going to tolerate tardiness any longer” Sanwo-Olu who prefers to be addressed as Mister rather than governor declared on Friday, September 17, 2021.
Sanwo-Olu made the declaration after he inspected the 1,188 unit Sangotedo Housing estate.
The 56years old in narrating his experience on the site which includes the threat of heavy sanction to “erring contractors slowing down the project” stated
“I inspected the 1,188-unit Sangotedo housing estate today with a clear instruction to the contractor to complete 744 flats in Scheme 1 by the end of October.
This project sited on 16.9 hectares started in 2012, stalled and was revived by our administration. The first scheme of the project has 62 blocks of 12 flat each, while the second scheme has 32 blocks of 444 flats.
I came for the inspection of the site to the see level of work being done. In the next six weeks, we will be handing over the 744 units in Phase 1 of the project and all contractors working on it must complete their work.
“I commend all contractors that have worked tirelessly to push through; I understand that this has been a very difficult project. We have been working night and day, trying to deliver. We want to be fair to every contractor and we appreciate those who have shown real resilience and commitment.
I used the opportunity of my visit to give a stern warning to erring contractors slowing down the project. It doesn’t matter who they know, I am not going to tolerate tardiness any longer. I will give one week to scale up work on the project. If there is no appreciable improvement, not only will their contracts be terminated, we will also prosecute them.”
