Insiders Defend Allegation Speaker Obasa Is Working Hard Underground To Determine Tunde Braimoh’s Successor

Insiders in the political circle of Lagos State have defended allegations that Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa is working underground to determine the successor to the seat Tunde Braimoh.

‘’It is mischievous to raise dust against an aspirant because Obasa is allegedly backing him or wipe up sentiments against Obasa because he is allegedly rooting for an aspirant (Yakub Balogun), it shows lack of understanding about what politics is all about’’ a societynow.ng

Another explained that ‘’politics is about mustering influences and supports to protect an interest or cause(s) that you believe in and it plays out in different frontiers, that is why you will see someone that wants to become an Oba in Osun or become a Governor in either Edo or Ondo state come to Lagos to lobby for support and it is celebrated.

Societynow.ng understands that this analogy is a veiled reference to the fact that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and Godwin Obaseki lobbied Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to retain the gubernatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress in their re-election bids.

‘’Creating ruckus because Obasa who is the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly is allegedly supporting an aspirant to replace a vacant slot in the Assembly because he is not from the same political zone as the aspirant is pure hypocrisy because all the politicians engage in the same practice and turn round to accuse the one that appears to be gaining an upper of wrongdoing’’ societynow.ng learned.

‘’How did the political heavyweights like Aregbesola (Rauf), Tinubu (Bola), even great leader Awolowo (revered Chief Obafemi Awolowo) emerged, is it not backing people in and out of their zones?. I am not supporting imposition but I am in support of creating bridges to achieve an ambition or a cause, it is politicking and that is how things get done, even in social setting’’ a source asserted.

Insiders further disclosed that the taking on Obasa over his alleged support is needless because the Speaker ‘’ does not have veto power’’ over who replaces Braimoh.

‘’Like any of the other leaders supporting different aspirants, Obasa can only root for someone he cannot make that person the candidate of the party that power resides with the political leaders with Asiwaju Tinubu as an overriding authority so, fighting Obasa is needless’’ a source asserted.

Braimoh, one of the most influential lawmakers in the Lagos Assembly representing Kosofe 2 Federal Constituency lost his life to Covid-19 on Friday, July 10, 2020.

The fight to determine the candidate of the APC ahead of the bye-election to determine is replacement is the cause of the myriads allegations undue interference against Obasa.
