How Children Saved Popular Tailor & His Apprentices From Collapsed 3 Storey Building

But for his three children, a popular tailor in the locality would have been listed as one of the fatalities of the collapsed three-storey building on Ibadan Street, Ebutte Metta, Lagos State.
SocietyNow.Ng gathered that the cloth maker’s shop was on the ground floor and was part of a pillar of some sort that held the three-storey building that collapsed on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
“The shop which was two outlets merged into one that Sola, the tailor, and his apprentices usually sleep overnight was leveled to the floor and all their equipment ruined” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
The information at hand revealed that the Tailor who is very popular in the locality and his apprentices escaped the collapsed building which has recorded about ten deaths and 23 rescues thanks to a last-minute call from his children – and his wife.
“He (the Tailor) is resident in Ikorodu (another part of Lagos) but has his shop in Ebutte Metta and mostly spends the night in his shop along with his apprentices to keep up with the demands of customers. On that fateful Sunday, he completed work but wanted to sleep over and leave for home the next day but his wife, Bose called him on the phone, and his children two boys and a girl pleaded he should come home that night that they are yearning for him. He yielded to the pleas of his children and dispersed his apprentices with different completed tasks to deliver to customers and headed home” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
Added information has it that he just stepped into his house in Ikorodu when he picked up persistent calls on his phone enquiring about his whereabouts and learned of the collapsed building.
“What if he hadn’t yielded to the pleas of his children to come home?, Though he is saddened by the huge loss he suffered from all his wrecked equipment including a brand new sewing machine he bought for N170,000 last week and keeps lamenting that he is ruined but those around him are urging him to be thankful for the grace of life” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
