Emerging details confirmed indeed Governor of Osun State Rauf Aregbesola is planning a move to the Senate after his tenure.

The governor leaves office next year – 2018, after the maximum two terms allowed by the constitution.

And like most governors before him, insiders disclosed the outgoing Osun helms man has ambition to become a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

But contrary to frenzy of talks in certain quarters Ogbeni as he chose to be addressed is planning to move to the Senate from Osun state.

There were talks before now the former Lagos commissioner wants to return to the centre of excellence to achieve his ambition.

‘’but that is not correct’’ a source stated and clarified ‘’yes he wants to go to the senate but it is from Osun not Lagos’’.

Though designs to achieve this objective are said to be ‘’already in motion’’ those who should know claimed there is still a stumbling block to the Governor’s ambition.

‘’Senator Jide Omoworare occupies the seat Governor Aregbesola is interested in’’ a source explained.

Both Aregbesola and Omoworare are from Osun East Senatorial district.

Not particularly popular in Osun state in general, Aregbesola’s strongest chance is said to be in the district.

And unlike Lagos where public officials are moved about to contest in different zones irrespective of ‘’political clout’’, Osun indegenes fiercely protect their terrain.

‘’they would rather engage in protest vote than allow someone not from their area to make away with their mandate’’ an insider provides insight.

‘’The issue with Aregbesola’s ambition is that Omoworare wants to return to the Senate…Initially the Senator wanted to become governor but the handwriting on the wall indicates it would be a herculean task for someone from the same zone as Aregbesola to take over from him, this aside issues of how well Aregbesola has endeared the party to the people with his performance as a two term governor..so Omoworare backed out and opted to remain in the Senate’’ a source disclosed.

Sources claimed whatever the Senator’s intention, Governor Aregbesola appears very keen to take over the senatorial seat and he is not hiding his intention.

Omoworare of lesser political weight than the governor in the state is said to be currently protecting his political interest under the wings of the influence of mentor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Both Aregbesola and Omoworare draw their political strengths from the camp of the man dubbed the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

‘’for now who gets to win is unclear..remember all manners of stories are being wove around Asiwjau Bola Tinubu and his associates…so i cant really say this is the person that has secured his backing between the Aregbesola and Omoworare’’ an insider says.
