Gov Dapo Abiodun’s Troubles Get Bigger!

Emerging details have that the political troubles of Governor of Ogun state Dapo Abiodun have multiplied.

Insiders attribute this development to the fresh life given to the opposition in the battle for the soul of the structure of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ogun State.

Fierce adversary Senator Ibikunle Amosun has been named a member of the National Executive Committee of the ruling party.

Amosun – the immediate past governor of Ogun state – is the leader of the formidable structure against the interests of Abiodun in and out of the party.

Amosun mounted such a fierce opposition against Abiodun’s emergence as the governor of Ogun state that he pulled his supporters into another party Allied People’s Movement and vigorously campaigned for the candidate of the party against Abiodun, who is the flag bearer of his political party.

Though Abiodun won the gubernatorial election, Amosun has continued to leverage on the extraordinary closeness to President Muhammadu Buhari to clinch all federal appointments given to Ogun state for his aides.

Earlier this year, Amosun’s loyalists in APM led by gubernatorial candidate Adekunle Akinlade announced their return to the APC to take up their former positions, but Governor Abiodun and his backers refused the move and ordered that they go and register as new members in their wards.

Societynow.ng gathered that the returnees from APM ignored the directive of the governor  – and the party leaders in the state loyal to him – and joined ranks with Derin Adebiyi, the former chairman of the party in the state sacked by the Dapo Abiodun caucus but loyal to Senator Amosun.

‘’Backed by the numbers of the APM returnees and influence of former governor Amosun, Derin Adebiyi set up a parallel APC executive in Ogun state’’ societynow.ng learned.

‘’The announcement of Amosun as a member of the National Executive Committee of APC just gave the Adebiyi faction a tremendous boost, because the Abiodun faction lacks such significant representation at such a topmost level of the party’’ societynow.ng learned.

The information at hand reveals that in cases of the setting up of parallel structures of the party in a state, the National Executive Council decides which is which and judging by how well Amosun has been having the better of the Abiodun caucus at the top level of APC, this is a very grave signal for Governor Abiodun.

‘’Abiodun’s political troubles just multiplied because the parallel structure with Adebiyi has chairman has started issuing statements, emboldened by Amosun’s appointment as a NEC member to take a more visible position in the politics of Ogun state’’.

Societynow.ng gathered that at stake for all involved in the fight for control are the issue of re-election, appointments and other ‘’things’’ that require validation as recognized official of the party to be secured.
