Fatai Sowemimo’s Influence Soars

The influence of Ogun politician Fatai Sowemimo has received a major boost with the emergence of a new monarch in his hometown of Isara, birthplace of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka.

On Monday, September 8, 2025, Oluwole Ogunbayo was elected the new Odemo of Isara, succeeding Oba Albert Adebose Mayungbe, who passed on May 1.

The new king comes from the Otete ruling family — the lineage of Sowemimo, a former lawmaker, commissioner, and immediate past chairman of the Ogun State Water Corporation.

As head of the Otete family, Sowemimo now occupies a pivotal position in the traditional power structure.

His standing is further reinforced by his close political ties with Senator Gbenga Daniel and other high -ranking Power figures.

“In kingship, the position of family head is very important. It comes with subtle but significant influence,” insiders note.
