BUA Group has raised the alarm over what it described as a fraudulent Ramadan giveaway scheme falsely linked to its Executive Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, warning members of the public to disregard any such claims and report those behind them to security agencies.

In a statement issued at the weekend, the conglomerate said its attention had been drawn to “the fraudulent activities of certain individuals who want to use the Holy Month of Ramadan to defraud unsuspecting members of the public regarding a purported give-away” by Rabiu.

The company categorically denied that the billionaire industrialist had initiated or authorised any Ramadan largesse, stressing that the scheme circulating online was entirely fake.

“We hereby state that our Executive Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu (CFR, CON), is at no time involved in this purported Ramadan exercise neither has he initiated any Ramadan give-away nor commissioned any person(s)/organization(s) to do such on his behalf,” the statement read.

The group cautioned Nigerians to be vigilant, especially during the holy month when acts of charity are common and fraudsters often exploit public goodwill.

It urged the public to be wary of suspicious links, mobile numbers or individuals claiming to be agents of BUA Group or any of its subsidiaries.

“The general public is hereby advised to be very cautious and report any suspicious link(s), mobile number(s) or fraudulent individual(s) claiming to be agents of BUA Group or any of its subsidiaries to relevant security agencies for prompt action,” the company added.

BUA further advised that all authentic updates about its activities can only be found on its verified social media platforms and secured websites, including www.buagroup.com, www.buacement.com, www.buafoodsplc.com and www.asrafrica.org.

The disclaimer comes amid growing concerns over the surge in online scams during festive and religious periods, with prominent public figures and corporate brands frequently targeted by fraudsters seeking to exploit their reputation.

By distancing itself from the purported Ramadan bonanza, BUA said it aimed to protect the public from financial loss and preserve the integrity of its chairman and affiliated institutions.
