Abdul Samad Rabiu, chairman of BUA Group, has described his presence at the State Banquet hosted by King Charles III as a moment of honour, as Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues a high-profile engagement with the British monarchy.

The leading African investor and philanthropist was among distinguished guests at Windsor Castle, where the British monarch hosted the Nigerian president and First Lady Remi Tinubu in a grand evening that followed an elaborate ceremonial reception earlier in the day.

“A journey to a distinguished evening,” the BUA Chairman said, reflecting on the occasion.

And, elaborated with “An honour to be at Windsor Castle for the State Banquet hosted by His Majesty King Charles III in honour of our President.”

His remarks come against the backdrop of a day steeped in royal pageantry, as Britain rolled out a ceremonial welcome marked by trumpets, mounted cavalry, horse-drawn carriages and a gun salute — a spectacle that underscored the enduring ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

President Tinubu had earlier described the visit as a significant moment in the relationship between both countries, noting that the engagement with the British monarch reinforced mutual commitment.

“Thank you, Your Majesty, King Charles III, for the warm welcome in Windsor today,” Tinubu said, adding “Our meeting this afternoon further strengthened my resolve in the strength of the partnership between our two countries.”

The president added that both nations remain bound by history and a shared vision for the future.

Declaring that, “Nigeria and the United Kingdom remain united by shared purpose, history, and a clear vision for the future.”

The State Banquet, a key highlight of the visit, brought together senior figures from government, business and diplomacy, signalling a convergence of political and economic interests as both countries seek to deepen cooperation.

Abdul Samad Rabiu, whose business footprint spans key sectors of the Nigerian economy, hints the evening also reflected the growing visibility of Nigerian enterprise on the global stage. Through BUA Group, he has built a diversified conglomerate with significant interests in cement manufacturing, sugar refining, flour milling, and infrastructure.

Its flagship listed entities — BUA Cement Plc and BUA Foods Plc — have in recent years delivered strong earnings, driven by rising demand, expansion in production capacity, and strategic positioning within Nigeria’s consumer and industrial value chains.

The group’s consistent profitability and scale have positioned it among the country’s most formidable indigenous business empires.

The champion of commerce emerged the biggest gainer in the most recent ranking of Africa’s richest by the global barometer of wealth – Forbes.

Beyond business, the King of business has also carved a reputation in philanthropy through Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), a platform through which he channels large-scale interventions into health, education, and social development across the continent.

The initiative has funded major projects in universities and healthcare institutions, reinforcing his influence not just as an industrialist but as a key development partner.

The Windsor engagements — from the disciplined formation of mounted cavalry to the fanfare of trumpets that heralded the president’s arrival — captured both the weight of tradition and the forward-looking tone of the discussions, as Nigeria and the United Kingdom continue to explore stronger ties in trade, investment and strategic partnership.
