Afriland Properties Explains Fire At Broad Street HQ, Hails First Responders

Afriland Properties Plc has given details of the fire incident that occurred on Tuesday at its headquarters, Afriland Towers, located on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
The building affected by the incident houses multiple businesses, including a branch of financial powerhouse, the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
In a statement, the company said the fire, which began in the building’s inverter room, spread smoke quickly through several floors, including the emergency exits, even as standard evacuation protocols were being observed.
It noted that the Federal Fire Service, the Lagos State Fire Service and other emergency teams were promptly alerted and arrived on the scene to contain the situation.
Afriland described the swift intervention of the emergency responders as instrumental in mitigating further damage and ensuring the safety of occupants.
The company also commended the contributions of first aid workers and members of the public who assisted during the evacuation.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to their families and loved ones,” the statement said.
Afriland confirmed that an immediate investigation into the cause of the fire has commenced and assured that it is working closely with the relevant authorities. It added that timely updates will be provided as more verified information emerges.
