Adamawa Prepares For Looming Flood As Nation Battles Borno Disaster
urged “residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer places”
With the anguish, sorrow, and pain trailing the Maiduguri, Borno flood disaster yet to abate, emerging reports indicate that another Nigerian state is bracing for an impending disaster.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has alerted the administration of Governor Umaru Fintiri of a looming flood disaster.
The agency listed areas likely to experience high-impact flooding, including Madagali, Mubi North, Mubi South, Shelleng, Demsa, Numan, Song, and Yolde Pate North Local Government Areas.
A statement shared by the “Office of the SSA on New Media to the Adamawa Governor” confirmed the development.
The state, in a release on Tuesday, September 12, 2024, urged “residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer places before September 16, 2024.”
The release, which also confirmed that the government is preparing for an “eventuality,” was, however, silent on steps taken so far to prevent a repeat of the Borno scenario.
The flood that ravaged Maiduguri, Borno State, virtually submerged the whole city, forcing the government to relocate victims to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
over 400,000 persons are believed to be displaced by the flooding in Maiduguri, Borno state.
