The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into allegations of extortion levelled against some of its operatives by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.
Oladips had claimed that EFCC officials extorted the sum of N10 million from him before securing his release following his arrest alongside other suspected internet fraudsters.
Reacting to the allegation, the EFCC said it views the matter with utmost seriousness and has already commenced an internal probe to establish the facts. The commission confirmed that the officers involved in the case have been summoned to its corporate headquarters and relieved of their operational duties pending the conclusion of investigations.
According to the anti-graft agency, the picture painted by the artist does not reflect the true image of the commission. It assured that it remains committed to upholding integrity and transparency in all its operations, stressing that appropriate sanctions would be meted out to any officer found culpable.
The commission also warned that if the allegations turn out to be false or intended to tarnish its reputation, necessary disciplinary measures would be taken against the accuser.
The EFCC urged the public to remain patient and have faith in its ongoing efforts to combat economic and financial crimes across the country.
