Why They Say Oba Elegushi Opposes Aremo Oniru In Bid To Become Lagos King
Eniola Adeniyi
The raging talk is that young monarch, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi is opposed to Aremo Adesegun Abiodun popularly called Aremo Oniru becoming the new King of Iru land.
The throne at Iru land became vacant with the death of Oniru, Oba Abiodun Idowu in September 2019.
The immediate past Oniru is the father of Aremo Adesegun – who has been groomed all his life to become the successor.
Aremo Oniru is facing a stiff challenge to the throne from another contender Akeem Ajasa, a police officer.
Ajasa, a Chief Superintendent of Police is allegedly enjoying backing from the likes of Oba Elegushi.
Elegushi is allegedly backing Ajasa based on the need to retain influence, status, and power with an individual with lesser clout install as the Oniru.
‘’Ajasa has lesser clout, influence, and affluence than Elegushi while Aremo is better placed’’ societynow learned.
Insiders insist even without the crown, as the heir apparent, Aremo Oniru is a major voice in Lagos state – even in the royal circle.
Obviously, Aremo Oniru becoming his father’s successor would overshadow the influence and clout of Oba Elegushi.
‘’That is why Oba Elegushi is backing someone of lesser influence to become the Oniru’’ a source stated.
Societynow.ng, however, gathered that stakeholders in Iru land who desire a King that can rebuff outside intervention are stealthily undermining the opposition from Elegushi and other quarters.
Societynow.ng gathered, interestingly, Aremo Oniru backed the process that produced Oba Elegushi as the king in Ikate land years back.
Aremo Oniru and Oba Elegushi are both members of the inner caucus of the political family of powerful politician Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Although Oba Elegushi is considered to be closer to the powerful politician, Aremo Oniru is seen as having greater weight in the scheme of things – Even without being a king in the fertile land of premium real estate and high-value business opportunities that is Iru land.
Sources close to Oba Elegush, however, claim that he is not supporting any of the leading contenders in the race to determine the next King of Iru land but working to ensure ‘’fair play’’ is allowed to play out.
