“I’m Taking The Next Step” — Sarafa-Yusuf Resigns From APC

A prominent politician, media veteran, and former governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has formally resigned her membership in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sarafa-Yusuf announced her exit in a statement titled “Moving Forward” on Thursday, August 27, 2026, disclosing that she had formally notified the leadership of the party in Ogun State of her departure via a resignation letter.
Explaining the rationale behind her decision, she stated that the move followed an extended period of travel, family time, and deep introspection regarding her future in politics and governance.
”My time in the APC has been an important part of my political journey, and I am grateful for the people I have met, the relationships I have built and the experiences that have shaped my understanding of public service and leadership,” she said, adding “however, there comes a time when one must have the courage to reassess one’s path.”
The former Special Adviser on Information to Governor Dapo Abiodun clarified that while she is leaving the ruling party, she remains fully dedicated to the socio-political development of the state and the nation at large.
”At this point in my journey, I believe it is important to consider carefully how best I can continue to contribute to Ogun State and Nigeria, and I am comfortable taking the time to make that decision thoughtfully,” Sarafa-Yusuf stated.
Dispelling any speculation regarding an early retirement from active public life, she emphasized that her core values of service, integrity, inclusion, and competence would continue to steer her subsequent actions.
”What I know with certainty is that my commitment to public service remains undiminished and that I will continue to be guided by the same values that brought me into public life in the first place: service, integrity, inclusion, competence, and a genuine desire to make a difference,” she further revealed.
And, clarified “It is, therefore, important to reiterate that I am not stepping away from public service. I am taking the next step in the journey.”
She concluded by outlining her immediate plans, noting that she would focus on her corporate engagements while mapping out her future political trajectory.
”In the meantime, I will return to my professional and business commitments after my holiday, while I take time to determine the form that the next phase of my political engagement will take. I wish the APC and all those within the party well,” she said.
