Elder statesman, Olusegun Osoba, and Governor Dapo Abiodun are trending in the political circle of Ogun state.

But for different reasons.

Osoba is riding on the waves of assertions by his supporters.

The former Governor’s loyalists are full of the sing-song “We are back, it is our time”.

They link this to the perceived role Osoba will play in the new Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Aside from Chief Bisi Akande, Osoba endearingly labeled “my Uncle” is the other non-political office holder recognized by President Tinubu in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023.

This recognition is said to have roots in the role played by Osoba in the emergence of Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate in June 2022, President-Elect on March 1, 2023, and President on May 29, 2023.

“Osoba was one of the heavy influences that kept Tinubu going. He fought for him and stayed true to the realization of the presidential ambition. Even in moments when Tinubu was dispirited, Osoba remained steadfast in urging him on. Osoba’s contribution is deemed invaluable. Osoba is one of those that put everything they have on the line for Tinubu to become President. His recognition during the inauguration is unexpected for those who know” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Since he left as Governor of Ogun state in 2003 – after a single term -, Osoba and his supporters have been sidelined – and persecuted – in affairs of the state.

His support base withered, especially after a dismal attempt to return his men reckoning on the platform of another political party – the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Re-elected Governor Dapo Abiodun in the last two years of his first term in office gave Osoba recognition as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state amid a very complex supremacy tussle.

But supporters of Osoba insist the recognition did not translate into empowerment for them.

“They believe empowerment is here with the projected influence of the former Governor in President Tinubu’s administration” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

The talk is that Osoba will be one of the strong voices of President Tinubu, particularly in the politics of Ogun state.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that supporters who have stuck with Osoba through thin and thick are trumpeting better days are here based on expected “empowerment” from the 83year old elder statesman.

On his part, Governor Abiodun is trending on the wings of happenings at his inauguration for a second term and the speculated implication.

The Governor’s swearing-in for a second term was witnessed by a limited crowd.

“The attendance was a far cry from the massive turnout for his first term inauguration” according to talks milling around.

The members of the transport unions were said to be the most prominent feature at his second-term inauguration on May 29, 2023.

The limited attendance is tagged a deliberate move by the “career politicians.”

Political watchers claim that politicians’ refusal to mobilize supporters to attend the second-term inauguration of the governor is a direct message aimed at influencing appointments.

Governor Abiodun suffered a running battle with the political class for appointing technocrats who allegedly refused to “empower’ them in the name of cost-cutting initiatives in his first term.

The face-off resulted in a near-loss for Abiodun in the election that gave him a second term.
