In the face of a raging supremacy fight with Ibikunle Amosun- who was a second term hunting Governor of Ogun State –, the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress Aremo Olusegun Osoba defected to Social Democratic Party,(SDP) one of the rival political parties.

The defection was made- after weeks of speculations – in January 2015 barely four months to elect a new Governor and occupiers of other elective positions minus the Local Government Chairmen and Councilors,

The defection of Osoba a former Governor of Ogun State and one of the founding fathers of the APC and also the leader of the party in the state created a lot of tension.

The stage looked set to determine the heavyweight politician in Ogun State between more experienced and connected Osoba and new power Amosun.

The much anticipated political clash, however, turned out a massacre for Osoba and his candidates on the day of the election – the former Governor couldn’t even help his son Olumide win the House of Representatives seat he contested as an incumbent Federal lawmaker in his stronghold.

‘’It was a tragedy. It was shocking, The results were spectacularly bad’’ were the reactions that trailed the election.

Insiders have, however, revealed how Amosun was able to ‘’thoroughly and conclusively ‘’ beat Osoba and his SDP at the polls.

‘’Osoba actually had his game plan tight. He played all his cards right and had major backings but in the week the election held, he got an official summon from the Alake – in – Council. You know he is the Akinrogun of Egbaland.

‘’It was at the meeting of high ranking chiefs in Egbaland with Alake (Oba Adedotun Gbadebo) as convener that Osoba was prevailed on not to engage in any action that would jeopardize the second term ambition of Amosun who is also an Egba man

‘’Osoba was made to realize that the interest of Egbaland comes first in anything and as the holder of a recognized traditional title in Egbaland he should respect that for the good of all and Osoba succumbed after much pressure.’’ Societynow.ng learned.

Sources disclosed that the implication of this was that, Osoba refused to implement the plan that would have given Amosun a run for his money on election-day.

‘’He just handed off the whole thing and the result was half-hearted attempts by the SDP candidates to salvage what they could individually from the whole thing, a development that played into the hands of Amosun’’ a source stated.

Societynow.ng learned that interestingly Amosun who feasted heavily on the win to proclaim himself ‘’champion politician’’ was in the know of the move by the Alake-In-Council and that technically there was never a fight and that his celebrated victory was ‘’an illusion’’.

”And Amosun’s people knew too but I guess politics is now about exploiting all situations to look good while honor as exhibited by Osoba is condemned to the background” a source opined.
