Why Fowler Should Not Be Abused For ‘’Begging’’ To Retain Office FIRS Boss

That Federal Inland Revenue Chairman, Babatunde Fowler failed in his bid to retain his position is no more news. Neither is the fact that he officially requested a renewal of his tenure but was denied the opportunity by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Rather than extend Fowler’s tenure, the President nominated a replacement – Muhammad Nami – on the very day that the FIRS Chairman’s tenure ended.

The memo by Fowler, which got leaked, requesting a tenure extension has attracted widespread reaction.

A larger percentage of the reaction tagged Fowler’s action as begging which shouldn’t have happened and lampooned the tax man for failing to understand the nuances within the corridor of power.

The leaked letter has resulted in huge embarrassment for Fowler.

Societynow.ng’s check, however, revealed that Fowler acted the line of what abounds in the corridor of power in requesting for a tenure extension.

Societynow.ng gathered that appointees that seek to continue to add value to the system usually write requesting a tenure elongation.

‘’It is not a new thing. Director Generals and other head of government agencies have done it in the past and still do’’ a source stated emphatically.

The politics behind it is that the request is formally made and powerful persons put in words for such candidates with decision-makers. I guess in Fowler’s case he didn’t do the proper ground or underestimated what he was up against’’ societynow.ng learned.
