Contrary to popular sentiments.

In a game of high stakes sentiment and morality are most often sacrificed for a perceived higher good – and that appears to be playing out with the Senatorial ambition of former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel.

Governor Dapo Abiodun and his men are backing Daniel’s ambition in a bid to retain him in their camp despite what appears to be a “conflict of interest” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Abiodun and Daniel are from Remo, one of the two divisions that make up Ogun East.

Contrary to popular sentiments and perceived sense of moral justice that dictates the sharing of political positions between the two divisions in Ogun East -, Daniel wants to take the Senatorial seat while Abiodun is working on re-election.

Abiodun and Daniel

The Senatorial seat is currently resident in Ijebu with Senator Lekan Mustapha who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) – like Abiodun and Daniel – as the occupier.

But Daniel wants to take over the Senatorial seat in a move that – if successful – will make the two top political positions resident in Remo.

And Abiodun and his men are backing the ambition as part of a larger agenda to retain control of the party and government of Ogun State SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Governor Abiodun is neck-deep in a make-or-mar political fight with his predecessor Ibikunle Amosun who fought passionately against his election in 2019.

Lekan Mustapha has sided with Amosun who is the Senator representing Ogun Central.

Backing Daniel to take over the Ogun Central Senatorial seat currently occupied by Mustapha tremendously helps Abiodun in the intense political fight with Amosun.

Mustapha

Daniel who owns one of the most formidable political structures in Ogun state – especially, with the taking over of the Kashamu Buruji group, which is still largely in place in rival People’s Democratic Party (PDP), after the 2019 general election – supported Abiodun to become Governor but has toned down his backing after the general election.

“Daniel’s noncommittal stance after the 2019 election which is based on the Governor falling short on certain understandings made him open to lures from the Amosun camp but the Abiodun camp is working to keep him in their camp by backing his senatorial ambition which is directly against the interests of Mustapha and the Amosun camp ” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
