Insiders have disclosed the order given to members of the Lagos state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) by its chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya while the 48hours of mayhem in Lagos State lasted.

The 48hours of mayhem refers to the wanton looting and destruction of public and private properties in Lagos state after the Tuesday, October 20, 2020 shooting of unarmed #EndSars protesters at Lekki Toll- Gate.

The looting and destruction started with a systematic attack on the businesses and properties of certain persons and targeted agencies and legacy projects of Lagos State before it spiraled into an uncontrollable mess.

Societynow.ng gathered that while the looting and destruction lasted MC Oluomo’s order to NURTW members was simple: “Stay out of it.”

Informants disclosed Oluomo took the stance to avoid twisting of narratives that may put the blame of the attacks on NURTW members.

“Oluomo told all the branch chairmen in Lagos state to coordinate all the unit chairmen to ensure that no NURTW member got involved in the mess that took hold of Lagos state. He told them he doesn’t want to hear any member mentioned in any way and they all obeyed” societynow.ng gathered.

According to a source “that was Oluomo’s directive when the #EndSars peaceful protest started until they claimed he sponsored some boys to attack protesters at Alausa. That Alausa episode made him re-emphasize the stay-away directive and that is why they totally stayed away during the looting and destruction of properties”

Societynow.ng gathered that what the transport union top men did was just to ensure the mayhem did not get to their homefronts.

“That is why you will notice that the destructions did not touch their homes and investments and they did not get any mention” societynow.ng learned.
