The untold story of Emzor Pharmaceutical has surfaced.

And it reads

From managing a retail pharmacy business, Emzor Chemists Limited, between late seventies and early eighties to founding a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited in 1984, Dr. Stella C. Okoli, OON has steered the growth of her company toward a single goal: provide high quality pharmaceutical products and services to the Nigerian people at prices that are not only affordable but represent value.

And along the way, she’s blazed the trail on providing products that are leading brands not only in Nigeria but across Sub Saharan Africa.

It all started in 1985 when the company commenced pilot production. And by 1988, it had become a popular brand especially with the introduction of Emzor Paracetamol.

From the modest beginning with four products in 1987, Emzor now manufactures in its factory a wide range of products in the analgesic, anti-malaria, vitamin/haematinics/multivitamin supplement, anti-helmintic , antibiotics and therapeutic categories.

Currently with more than 80 different products in its stable, the company has simply been amazing.

It is leading the way in antibiotics with its range of products, Kezitil, Emzifix, Emmox, Emcillin just to name a few. The company is also a big player in malarial fight. Its anti-malaria drugs like Emzoquine Forte, Lokmal, Maldox are peak of the pack.

Among its several other hot areas are haematinics, drugs used in the treatment of anaemias, and dietary supplements.

A company that does not only serve as an example of the ethical imperative in the structure and design of a business, mere compliance with rules or carrying out welfare initiatives for staff does not fall in the ambit of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Emzor. Rather, it is a human resource activity.

In fact, Emzor has voluntarily gone beyond the rule.

Its unwavering commitment to unlimited wellness for all Nigerians goes beyond provision of world class pharmaceutical products and services.

The company continuously seeks ways of reaching out to Nigerians on the need for healthy living. The Emzor Heart-y walk is one of such programmes geared towards motivating participants to take up exercises such as walking regularly as a means to keep the heart healthy.

A 5km walk, the event is aimed at creating awareness on the risk factors for heart disease and encouraging the general public on the need to keep their hearts healthy by exercising.

A yearly programme, participants are encouraged to have a free blood pressure check and counseling before embarking on the exercise.

There is also the Emzor Wellness Race, and the Emzor Monthly Health Check organized every 3rd Tuesday of every month. The free health check creates an avenue for the members of the public both privileged and less privileged to have access to an array of free health services, consultation and counseling that hitherto was an expensive and obviously unaffordable venture especially for the less privileged.

In the company’s quest for unlimited wellness to all Nigerians, Emzor regularly organizes training programme for pharmacy attendants, and the patent medicine vendors to enlighten them on basic health practices that would improve the standards of health and pharmacy practice in Nigeria.

The pharmacy attendant’s job in a pharmacy shop in Nigeria is basically to help in the dispensing of medications. The company’s belief that it is an important aspect of pharmacy practice that must also have a level of professionalism, motivated it to have a regular training for them on the basic practices so as to be able to carry out their assignments to the benefit of the patients, which is the primary aim of pharmacy practice, and to move their business to a greater height, which is also one of the key objectives for setting up such businesses.

World Health Organization (WHO) recommends periodic drug treatment (deworming) of all children living in endemic areas following the nutritional impairment caused by soil-transmitted helminthes .

Emzor is one business entity that promotes the deworming of children in Nigeria with its mass deworming exercise, which holds regularly. Recently, the company donated 100, 000 doses of its deworming drug, Zolat to the Office of the Ogun State First Lady to support the state’s school based deworming programme.

Philanthropy is an ‘extreme sports’ in Emzor. The giant pharmaceutical company is inclined to give as much to the lives of others even outside its primary area.

In quick response to the cry for help in various refugee camps following the flood disaster that befell various riverine arrears in Anambra State sometime back, the company donated relief materials to the victims.

In Emzor, there are reasons to jump up and down with excitement, and nothing to frown about. The company has a formidable collection of medicines and is doing fine.
