Sunday Adeyemo, the Yoruba nation agitator popular known as Sunday Igboho has lost the N20Billion compensation awarded to him.

Igboho was awarded a N20billion compensation by an Oyo State High Court last year over the “illegal” midnight invasion of his home by the men of the State Security Service (SSS).

The residence of Igboho at Soka, Ibadan Oyo state was raided by the SSS on July 1, 2021, in a failed attempt to arrest him.

The Oyo state High Court in a suit filed by Igboho declared the raid of his residence as illegal and awarded N20b as exemplary and aggravated damages against the SSS.

The ruling in favor of Igboho who was later arrested in the Benin Republic while trying to evade the reach of the government was delivered on September 17, 2021.

However, on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, Oyo state set aside the judgment in favor of Igboho.

The Court of Appeal held that the High Court acted on the wrong principle of the law in awarding the damages in favor of Igboho.

The appeal was filed by the attorney general of the federation (A-GF), SSS, and the Director of SSS in Oyo State.
