“Our Priority Is Not To Remove Saraki As Senate President” APC Senator, Magnus Abe

All Progressives Congress Senator, Magnus Abe insists there was – and is – no plot to remove Senate President Bukola Saraki from office.

The Senate President defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the opposition People’s Democratic Party a couple of days back.

And today – Tuesday, August 8, 2018 – armed men of the State security Services reportedly stormed the national assembly and block the PDP Senators from accessing to allegedly allow APC Senators impeach the Senate President Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

Both the Senate President and Deputy Senate President belong to the People’s Democratic Party.

Acting on a tip-off, the PDP Senators stormed the national assembly as early as 5.00a.m to stall the alleged coup.

The fallout was the public outcry that took hold of the nation all day.

But Senator Magnus Abe insists there was no planned coup.

And explained that the development at the National Assembly was “an overreaction” to news of a caucus meeting held by the All Progressives Congress Senators last night.

Abe insists though the APC caucus held a caucus meeting last night(Monday, August 7, 2018) but removing Saraki as Senate President was not part of the agenda.

Abe stated that the focus of the meeting was on how to get outstanding legislative matters done, especially issues pertaining to electoral umpire Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Senator from Rivers state admitted that though the ruling party is not happy that opposition party members hold the position of Senate President and Deputy Senate President, the party would rather explore constitutional means to seek redress than “a coup”.

Abe insists the development which attracted public outcry today was an overreaction from the PDP Senators to the APC Caucus meeting.

Abe who spoke this evening on channels television political programme, Politics Today –anchored by Seun Okinbaloye – explained the presence of masked security police operatives as “out to protect properties” from the overreaction approach of the PDP Senators.

Interestingly Vice President Yemi Osinbajo sacked Director General of the State Security Service, Lawal Daura – with immediate effect – on the premise of “breach of national security” for deploying masked operatives for a “takeover” of the national assembly.

Reacting to the development on Politics Today Magnus Abe stated simple “it is the right of the government to hire and fire”.
