“I Refuse To Be A Sitting Duck!” — Omo-Agege Quits APC
development is expected to trigger fresh political realignments
Former Deputy President of the Senate and Obarisi of Urhoboland, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, declaring that he would not remain “a sitting duck” in a party where he could no longer advance the interests of his people.
Omo-Agege announced his resignation in a letter dated May 22, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of APC Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The former Senate Deputy President said his decision followed “careful review” of recent developments within the party in Delta State and extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters.
According to him, “after reviewing recent developments within the APC in Delta State and consulting with my associates and supporters, it is clear that my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the party.”
In a statement of declaration, Omo-Agege said: “I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.”
The development is expected to trigger fresh political realignments in Delta State, especially within Delta Central, where the former governorship candidate of the APC remains a dominant political figure with a loyal support base.
Omo-Agege, who served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, however expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity given to him while he was in office.
“I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate,” he stated in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh.
He added that he had formally requested that his name be removed from all party records and communication structures.
“I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he added.
The former lawmaker maintained that his political focus remained unchanged despite his exit from the ruling party.
According to him, “my focus remains on delivering development and effective representation for Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.”
He further stressed that he would now pursue those goals outside the APC, a statement already fueling speculations over his next political destination and possible alliances ahead of future elections.
